LOGO & BRANDING
As you may have read in my resume, I have worked in the digital imaging industry since 2017. Along my journey, I have gained the skills and confidence to open up a small headshot studio. With this venture, I can explore my photography skills further with creative freedom from an established brand identity and visual guidelines. The branding of this new company was a difficult process. Branding clients is one thing; branding yourself is another. I felt uncomfortable using my name as the company name, as I wanted to keep my identity separated from the company I own. I came across the name serendipitously, as someone close to me had been reading the Lord of the Rings books and came across a tree creature that reminded them of me. The creature was called Quickbeam. I thought the name was perfect as it evokes the flash of a camera and a beloved series all at the same time. Originally, I intended to play heavily off of the botanical nature of the book character (and my own name), evoking imagery of leaves and vines. But with further drafting, this proved difficult to implement in the visual identity I was aiming for. I settled on blocky text and light flash motifs in the end, which I think is a stronger choice considering the light and airy branding most small photography companies tend to favor. I wanted my company to stand out from the crowd with bold colors and easy-to-read fonts.
DRAFTING TIMELINE
WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA
The next step was implementing my design into functional marketing materials. This project was also my first step into building a site completely on my own. It was a chance to use all the skills I’ve learned working in web design and web development over the years as a junior web designer at a small marketing firm. After a bit of reading and research, I set up my site and got down to designing. I was able to use more greens and natural colors in the website to complement the logo rather than copying the colors and themes exactly. The result is a website that’s easy to read and navigate, with integrated links to my scheduling software and room for growth in the future. I plan on expanding this site page by page as my client base grows. So far, the logo and website have been easy to incorporate into designs. The branding is also visually impactful, making a mark in the minds of potential clients. You can view the designs in action at www.quickbeamphotos.com.
